Rich concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, insurance bad faith, product liability, negligence and wrongful death.

I became a lawyer because it seemed like a natural transition to my career as a police officer and State Trooper. I thought it would present me with new challenges and the opportunity to help people in a different way. And, in all honesty, I knew if I was good advocate for my clients, it would be financially rewarding and I would never have to rely on someone else to shape my financial destiny.

What I like most about the law is that it is fluid. It changes all the time. I am presented with so many unique problems every time I answer the phone and talk with a potential new client. No two calls are ever the same. Each individual has a different issue or question. It makes coming into work every day exciting.

My most rewarding case was when I helped a family with a little boy recover compensation for the death of the child's father. What a bizarre case. The mother and father got married when the mother was fourteen. The father was only nineteen when he died and the little boy was less than a year old at the time. The dad was just working occasional part-time jobs. I was fortunate to be able to investigate the accident within a week of its occurrence. The early investigation was the most helpful factor in resolving the claim quickly, and without having to file a lawsuit. That child will be financially secure his whole life. Even though we can't bring his father back to him, he will be able to concentrate on becoming the best person he can be. He will be able to go to school or follow his dreams knowing he has the financial freedom to reach for the stars.

I opened my own law firm because I wanted to be able to choose clients that I thought would most benefit from my expertise. I wanted the ability to spend as much time with each of my clients as necessary and not be rushed or pushed into doing something halfway. I knew that I really cared about the people who hired me and would stand up for them against the big and powerful insurance companies they were up against. I also wanted the freedom to spend quality time with my wife, Abby, and our two boys, Sam and Gabe. Running my own firm provides me the flexibility to work when needed but still volunteer to coach and be involved with my wife and children.

What makes Rich Migala different from other attorneys? I grew up in Watervliet, a very small town in West Michigan. My parents both worked full-time. We were not "well off." Actually my parents had to file bankruptcy when I was nine years old. I did not feel poor, but I sure knew the value of a dollar. I also knew that success only comes from hard work. I worked full-time while attending college part-time at night to get my undergraduate degree. It took me over ten years to graduate. I also went to law school full-time at night after working full-time all day. I graduated in the top ten percent out of 136 students in my class. And, I graduated Cum Laude.

I also am blessed with extensive experience and skills that I use as an attorney in investigating accidents — learned while employed as a Michigan State Trooper, deputy sheriff and city patrolman. I was a police officer for over 14 years. I think that makes me rather unique as a lawyer.

I am honored to be described as a legal consultant for WKZO radio here in West Michigan. I am their legal source for expert advice when a legal topic is in the news. I feel privileged that I was sought out to provide my expertise to listeners throughout West Michigan. Their shows reach over half a million listeners each day.

Outside of my family, my most treasured belonging is my law practice. It represents who I am, how hard I have worked, what I have accomplished and what I still hope to achieve.
